About

David Schmidt and Julie Kloss started Dutch Bike Co. in 2007 with the intention of bringing simple & well designed bicycles to the American market.  The kind of bicycle that makes time pass slower and brings you in touch with your neighborhood.  In 2008 a second location was opened in Chicago, one of the great American bicycle cities and a  perfect match for these bomb proof city bikes.  Fritz Rice, Vince Spina and Alex White all joined the company in 2009 establishing a great service & repair department.  All are  avid consultants to  customers on how to make any bike more useful.

In 2010 a new Seattle store & cafe' was built in Seattle's historic Ballard neighborhood.  Julie's pastries and sandwiches have taken the shop to a new level   Along with some great staff the cafe' is  now pulling some of the best espresso in the city as well as serving beer and wine.  Bicycles, coffee, beer and wine.  Seems perfectly logical.

We've been selling and shipping Dutch city bikes, Bakfiets cargo bikes and WorkCycles throughout the USA for over two years. We are the commuter and utility bicycle experts.

Our passion for Dutch bikes and love of the everyday cycling lifestyle has gained us recognition in the NY Times, Seattle Times, the Seattle Post Intelligencer, GQ Magazine and Seattle Magazine, as well kept us number one in the "Dutch bike" seach rankings.

Our intent to sell quality products and take care of our customers has gained us a loyal following online and in our local communities as a neighborhood bike shop which services all bicycles, from beloved 30 year-old Schwinns to full-suspension mountain bikes and everything in-between.
